So I got my Digg Alpha invite yesterday, and was SO not impressed. Digg is going to change a lot. Now your feeds are going to come to you via what your friends Digg. My friend Brian hit the nail on the head by saying; “Basically it’s the Twitter RT function.” Yeah..he’s right. It is.

Not to pick on anyone at all, but let’s say I hit my news feed section, and Louiebaur has voted on a ton of submissions by publishers, I am going to see a ton of Louie’s votes. That’s how it is going to feed you. You see what your friends voted on and their relative interests…wait…hmm…”Your Mixx” anyone?

It’s no secret Digg has been scraping ideas from the underdog known as Mixx, but damn. Now they are scraping ideas from Twitter, Facebook, you name it. Nothing is sacred.

One thing that is semi cool is the ability to import you Google, Facebook, and Twitter contacts. But that’s about it.

Digg has shown that now it is all about the publishers. You can see that when you sign into the New Digg, they push publisher recommendations on you. Digg used to be competitive and fun. You would compete to pop a story, and hit the coveted side bar. MrBabyman dominates in this arena. Now Digg has gone the way of the publisher. So, no longer will power users wield the power they once had to pop a sub, but a power user will influence the feeds their friends see and so on.

To me voting sites are losing their way, plagued with spamming issues and user gaming. I just say this, a few bad apples can spoil the bunch. You throw the bad apple out and away from the others. Instead of putting in a little ban work, Digg has decided to make things easier for themselves, suck up to publishers, and make the site less fun for it’s users.

This is just my opinion…

Last night one of NBC’s longest running shows came to an epic close. While many spin offs still remain like SVU and Law & Order Los Angeles, the show that started the (Dun Dun) took a dramatic turn. This time, instead of ripping stories from the headlines, they ripped it from the internet.

Last night as I sat in my office and lurked on the interwebs, I noticed something happening on 4chan. Everyone for some reason kept posting “Dun Dun”. This was even before the series finale of Law & Order began it’s run in it’s time slot on NBC. Many images of Law & Order assaulted the image boards. I was never a big Law & Order fan, but it peaked my interest. So I made a post, this, is when I shat brix.

The 4chan mods had changed the “Post Successful” message to a Law & Order themed message complete with the unforgettable Law & Order sound “Dun Dun”. What can I say, I LOL’d, LOL’d hard.

The time came for Law & Order so I turned around and flipped on my TV in my office and began watching Law & Order with my fellow /b/tards.

The series finally was about a guy who had posted a warning on the internet that he was going to set off bombs in a school and go on a killing spree. Now I know people are thinking “That’s more of a Columbine story than internet.” Not so, the would be killer was posting the warning on his blog. So what made this so intriguing to the denizens of 4chan? The fact that the name of the Website was “Moot’s Countdown”.

Moot, as most people know him, is the internet handle of Chris Poole, founder of the popular site 4chan. The fact that Law & Order writers included the internet handle, set 4chan into a frenzy.

Most people on the site last night were speculating: “Do you think the bad guy will be the real Moot? That would be so F’N Epic!” This statement really isn’t that far fetched of a guess. 4chan and Anonymous had hacked a Time Magazine Poll to name Moot as the most influential person on the planet. This garnered Chris Poole aka “Moot” national recognition. Moot has also been asked to speak at many conferences and has only recently in the past year began giving more interviews.

(4Chan founder Chris Poole aka Moot)

To the credit of the writers, they actually did their homework. Most police dramas I have seen recently totally screw up the real life application of computer forensics, not Law & Order. With good old fashioned police work and the correct protocol for tracking IP’s, doing interviews, Law & Order came to it’s dramatic finish. Much to the dismay of the 4chan community, Chris Poole did not play himself. 4Chan erupted into a resounding “WTF!” but, most were torn, upset that Moot was not Moot, but yet happy that the site was yet again receiving recognition.

Nashville is going through the worst disaster it has seen since the Civil War. One thing has shined through though, the community is probably the strongest it has ever been. Loss of life, billions of dollars in damage, and damage historic sites have been just some of the catastrophic issues plaguing the city. But residents of Nashville are marching on!

After a two day rain storm struck Nashville, some areas of the city and surrounding communities were under 10 to 20 feet of water. Since most of these areas were never considered flood zones, a lot of home and business owners did not have flood insurance. This has made things more difficult for people who have lost everything.

A while back I had written an article called “Masha what the fuuuuu!” on this very site. Well Mashable, I take it back. You guys shined in breaking the silence to the world and showing everyone what Social Media users were putting up to alert people to this tragedy! You did this before traditional media. I applaud you! Now with that apology and admiration out of the way, let’s get back to the story.

Tom Cheredar, a good friend of ours at SMR and Social Blend is a Nashville Tech journalist. Tom has been keeping us up to date as much as he can about the issues surrounding Nashville. He was a guest on our most recent episode of Social Blend where we discussed the flood and the lack of national media attention. Tom also wrote a great post on GeniusCog about the Nashville Tech Community’s call to arms during this devastating event. Tom’s attitude of optimism is the same thing I have been hearing from every Nashville resident I have talked to. “This city WILL bounce back, and be better than before!” is what I continue to hear. You know what? I believe him.

The Nashville Community hasn’t taken this lying down. CNN’s Anderson Cooper was in Nashville, to help raise awareness of the tragedy, and also proved just how resilient Nashville is. A lot of country music stars who live in Nashville have taken up the cause, Kenny Chesney, and Kieth Urban lost their homes. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were on CNN last night with Anderson Cooper showing him the devastation around the city. Taylor Swift donated $500,000 to flood relief. The list keeps growing and growing.

As the flood waters recede the community is rebuilding. Neighbors are helping neighbors, not only in the local community but even in the state next door. Residents from Kentucky were also hit by the flood, they are rebuilding and offering some Kentucky kindness to their Nashville neighbors. Businesses in Kentucky have been rounding up relief supplies to send to Tennessee. Church groups are heading to Nashville to help with relief and rebuilding efforts.

One thing that I have found absolutely awesome in all of this, is I have heard no reports of looting or crime sprees. Nashville has shown itself to be a big city with small town idealism, people want to help, not steal.

If you are interested in donating to relief efforts, Hands on Nashville is a good place to start.

You can also help spread the word about relief efforts on Twitter. Hashtag #NashvilleFlood and show your support with a Nashville Flood Twibbon.

At risk of sounding completely redneck (and I really don’t care if I do) I gotta quote Hank Williams Jr. I find it very fitting: “Country folks can survive!”

Ok, I know people are going to say “What the hell is a political piece doing on SMR?” Let me break it down.

Lately I have seen a ton of sharing on political pieces ie; Obama Care, Financial Regulatory Bills, Tea Party Movements, Australian Government Web Censorship, and this got me to thinking; “WTF PEOPLE!”

I live in Kentucky, and unfortunately Mitch McConnell is the head of the Republican Minority. Every time I turn around Republicans are blocking bills and playing dumbass political games for their lobbyists and pissing me off. The Democrats are also not providing the leadership we elected them to give. Now I have got to hand it to President Obama, he has come in literally bitch-slapped the body politic. HE NEEDED TO!

He currently has introduced a bill to regulate the way big banks do business. He wants to make sure the American People, (the same people who voted him into office I might ad) don’t get screwed by big banks. Mitch (I’m a jackass McConnell) rallied his Republican troops to block the bill. So the SEC, down party lines, brings Goldman Sachs up on fraud charges. “Why?” you might ask, I’ll tell you why. A Hedge Fund Manager named Jon Paulson created a shitty investment made up of mortgage bonds he knew would fail. Goldman Sachs then agreed to sell this investment to investors, then both Paulson and Sachs bought insurance against the shitty investment, when it failed, they raked in the dough. The investors, ranged from other firms to Mom and Pops. So basically they were sold crap and not told it was a turd, and lost their money, that’s where the fraud comes in.

Now Rep. Leader Mitch McConnell believes we don’t need regulations. Shit, Really? So Mitch, you are ok with big banks screwing your constituency? Wow? How the hell do you keep getting elected into office? All I hear out of the Republican Party is “Block, Stop, Cut, No way, Hell no.” and the dumbass Tea Party movement is so uneducated to these facts, they remind me of a bunch of seagulls from Finding Nimo looking at Sarah Palin going “Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine”.

Where does it end people? Is it kicking President Obama’s ass? I don’t think so, I believe he is getting dis-heartened from time to time, but he keeps coming out swinging. Are his ideas always popular? No. But maybe, just maybe his ideas and methods are something the US Body Politic has been missing for a while. Big banks need a good smack on the ass from time to time. Banks need to be regulated, all this money they waste could have been put back into the economy on shit that wouldn’t fail. Goldman Sachs paid out 16 Billion in bonuses in January and another 5.4 billion in April. Wow Really? 21.4 Billion? If that doesn’t make you turn your head twice then something is absolutely wrong with you.

I have heard a ton of bitching and moaning about the health care bill. The Tea Party Activists would quote things in Obama’s Health Care bill that weren’t EVEN THERE! I believe if more people would actually sit down and read these bills and legislation, then maybe they could pass judgment. If you haven’t read it, don’t bitch about it.

Australia, damn I feel sorry for you guys. The government is wanting to block over 10,000 websites from the country. The list is growing by the way. What your Governing body has no clue about is how their filter will drain the bandwidth of an entire nation. Hell Anonymous won’t have to continue their DDOS attacks, once that filter is in place, good luck getting to any website at all.

People of the world, do yourselves a favor, don’t just vote for someone, know what they are all about before you cast your vote. Don’t guess, get involved with your local party, be you Republican, Democrat, or Independent. So far the people we are putting in office at certain levels of Government are grossly under-qualified. In a democracy it should be ‘For the people, by the people” not “For the lobbyists, by the money”. So when you cast a vote think about this, would you let the guy flipping burgers at McDonald’s perform a heart transplant on you?

So what’s the point in all this? Get involved, don’t pretend to know, actually find facts, make a sound educated decision before you vote, and for God sake, quit bitching if when you have no clue what you are bitching about.

The Devil went down to Digg, he was looking for some content to steal.

He was in a bind cause he was way behind so he was willing to make a deal.

He came upon this young man Digging some submissions and making em hot!

When he saw him he shot a DM that said “Boy lemme tell you wat!”

“In case you didn’t know it I’m a Power Digger too, and if you care to make a dare I’ll make a bet with you. Now you’re a pretty good Digger boy but give the Devil his due, I’ll bet a Shovel of Gold against your Mac Book Pro ‘Co$ I think I’m better than you!”

The Boy said “My name’s Andy, and it might be a sin, but I’ll take your bet, you’re gonna regret ‘cause I’m the best that’s ever been!”

Andy fire up your feeds and plug submissions hard, cause hell’s broke loose on Digg and the Devil’s a retard. If you win you get this shiny shovel made of Gold, but if you lose the Devil gets your Mac Book Prooooooooooo!

The Devil fired up his Dell and he said I’ll start this show, and fire flew from his finger tips his home page was Beebo. When he pulled in his RSS it made an evil hiss, then some outsources from India jumped in and it sounded something like this:

“hello buddy it’s Ramish..can I get a Digg? http://Digg.com/D3v1L?”

“I can get Digg for friend? http://Digg.com/D3v1L?”

When the Devil finished Andy said: “Well you’re pretty good ole’ son, but sit back in your chair right there and lemme show you how it’s done!” Hey Played

College Humor, The Oatmeal, and XKCD! Glen Beck’s a fag, Anti Scientology. Tea Party Morons, The Daily Show, Zombie Apocolypse, and Sarah Pailn’s a ho!

Well the Devil bowed his head ‘cause he knew that he’d been beat, and he laid that Golden Shovel on the ground at Andy’s feat. “Devil just come on back if you ever wanna try again, and when you’re asked my user name well it’s MRBABYMAN!” He played:

College Humor, The Oatmeal, and XKCD! Glen Beck’s a fag, Anti Scientology. Tea Party Morons, The Daily Show, Zombie Apocolypse, and Sarah Pailn’s a ho!

So my friend Tom Cheredar hit me up with a link today, that pretty much has sent a “WTF?” shot around the Social Media community.

Since when does Mashable consider themselves /Film ? We tend to go to Mashable for Social Media or Tech News, not reviews over the latest Sex and the Shitty trailer. Come on Mashable…where the fuck was the editor on this one? Also why the hell are you not approving the comments from your readers who are wondering when the hell you became a movie review site. Seriously, we could let a movie with a highly successful viral campaign on the web slide, or something relevant to the interest of your readers. Since when do your readers give two shits about Carrie and the girls?

PETE CASHMORE! WTF!
